“Millions expose themselves to fatal accidents”

The Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) reports in the January issue of ECA Today, that…

“In the past year, almost one million people have repaired an appliance while it is still plugged in - despite the fact this can result in a fatal or serious injury”

The report goes on to highlight the alarming number pf people who underestimate the dangers associated with electricity in the home.

“Other electrical ‘confessions’ included knowingly using faulty plugs or sockets (12.2 million people), ignoring burning smells coming from an appliance or socket (1.5 million people), and trailing cables near hot surfaces or cookers (two million people).”

If you have any concerns over the safety of your electrical installation or the appliances attached to it, the safest thing to do is contact a qualified electrician.

If you would like more information about electrical safety in the home, please visit the Electrical Safety Council’s website at esc.org.uk

Orchard Electrical lights up Durham

November may be cold and dark, but for a few days in Durham there was an abundance of light.

Lumiere was held over four evenings in the beautiful city of Durham.  There were over 30 dazzling displays of light sculptures, interactive art and light installations.

Orchard Electrical was chosen to provide electrical support and installation services by festival technical producers Hi-Lights.

In the week leading up to the opening night of Lumiere, Hi-Lights organized a crew of 36 electricians, riggers, drivers and technicians to transform the center of Durham.  Orchard Electrical’s role was to oversee the safety of installations, verify designs and support the huge on-site team by answering any electrical queries they had.

The festival was a great success with the city being seen, by everyone who went, in a very different light.
